The refreshed Utah 1 Goldback honors the virtue Prudentia, or prudence, personified as a Ute woman wearing a traditional deerskin dress. Her beadwork, jewelry, moccasins, and attire were carefully designed using historical photographs and period references to create an authentic representation of Ute craftsmanship. The Ute people are the longest continuously living Indigenous inhabitants of present-day Utah, with a history stretching back long before European settlement. Their traditional homeland encompassed much of modern Utah as well as parts of Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Arizona. The red rock landscapes surrounding present-day Arches National Park were part of their ancestral homeland, where they hunted game, gathered plants, traveled established trails, and passed down stories tied to the earth.
