He is wearing the fustanella, a classic pleated kilt-like garment paired with wool leggings, a dark vest, and distinct pom-pom shoes called tsarouchia. Right Print: Plate No. 59 Greek Text: 59 ΣΟΥΦΛΙΟΥ French Text: SOUFLI This print showcases the traditional festive dress of a woman from Soufli, a town in the Thrace region of northeastern Greece. Soufli is historically famous for its silk production, and its local costumes are celebrated for their fine woven textures, layered skirts, delicate dark aprons, and floral embroidery accents. Both prints are matted with double-lined borders and housed in narrow wooden frames. These are original colored lithographs created by the prominent Greek painter and author Athina Tarsouli. They originate from her celebrated folio series Greek Costumes (Ελληνικές Φορεσιές), which was first published in Athens in 1941. The lithographic adaptation and execution of Tarsouli's original tempera and watercolor artwork were carried out by the renowned Greek master engraver Kostas Grammatopoulos.
