Rare matching pair of original cabinet card portraits photographed in Yokohama, Japan by the noted K. Tamamura studio. Both show the same Western / white couple in two different formal poses, dressed in period clothing and holding walking canes. Embossed photographer mark reads K. Tamamura – Yokohama, Japan. Tamamura Kozaburo was a well-known Meiji-era Yokohama photographer who produced portraits and tourist photographs for foreign visitors and residents. Western subjects are especially interesting compared with the Japanese scenic and genre images more commonly seen from Yokohama studios. Great crossover for collectors of early Japan photography, Meiji-era material, Yokohama history, cabinet cards, travel photography, and Westerners in Japan. 2-piece lot.
