vintage Japanese "Art of Chokin" decorative porcelain collector plate, featuring an etched copper-and-gilded center depicting calla lilies, trimmed with a 24K gold rim. Chokin (彫金) is a traditional Japanese metal-engraving technique originally created to decorate samurai armor and weaponry. The artwork is made by etching designs onto pure copper, then gilding it with silver and gold highlights. In the late 20th century, these metal artwork plates were embedded into fine china or porcelain plates as souvenir collectibles.
