Pennsylvania redware oval serving platter crafted by Barnstead Pottery of Barnesville, Pennsylvania. This hand-thrown and hand-painted piece features the traditional folk art stylings of potters Jake and Becky, signed in distinctive white slip calligraphy script on the underside ("The Barnstead, Barnesville, Pa., Jake und Becky").The front of the platter is decorated in vibrant colored slips over a cream-colored ground, showcasing a classic Pennsylvania Dutch style distelfink bird, stylized tulips, floral stems, and a red heart. It is inscribed with the heartwarming, classic motto: "Home is where the heart is." A delicate wavy brown slip border trims the rim of the platter. Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The slip-painted design remains bright and intact. As a piece of authentic handmade pottery, it features minor, natural glaze variations inherent to the studio firing process, adding to its unique folk art charm.
