Authentic late-Victorian cotton and lace wrapper dating from the 1870s to 1880s. A wrapper was a loose, full-length garment worn by women inside the home while dressing, resting, completing household activities, or receiving close family members. It was not necessarily intended as sleepwear. This white cotton example measures nearly five feet long and has documented provenance from the M. Estella Sprague Costume Collection. MEASUREMENTS • Bust: Approximately 40 inches • Length: Approximately 58.5 inches The loose wrapper construction may accommodate a range of waist and hip measurements. Please rely on the measurements and photographs. CONDITION The original auction catalog notes a tear to the center-front lace, scattered staining, and tide or water marks. Additional discoloration, small holes, lace separation, fabric weakness, seam stress, old repairs, or missing closures may be present due to the garment’s approximately 140–150 years of age.
