Beautiful antique Derby Silver Plate Co. salt and pepper shaker pair, marked DSP Co. 204 and dating approximately to the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1910. Each shaker features a tall tapered form with richly detailed floral and scrolling relief decoration, ornate footed bases, and pierced domed tops. The darkened silverplate has developed wonderful natural patina and oxidation that emphasizes the elaborate design. The undersides are stamped DSP Co. / 204, identifying Derby Silver Plate Co. of Connecticut. Derby was founded in 1873 and later became part of International Silver Co. in 1898. The number 204 is a factory pattern or form number rather than a date. Each measures approx. 4” tall. Antique condition with substantial tarnish, oxidation, plate wear, and surface wear consistent with age. One top shows green oxidation/verdigris around the neck. Left unpolished.
