Antique Eveready "Daylo" flashlight. The text "PAT. OCT. 19, 1915" stamped on the casing references the patent date granted to the National Carbon Company (the parent company of Eveready at the time) for its flashlight design. In 1916, Eveready launched a famous $3,000 contest to name their popular torches, ultimately choosing the word "Daylo" (derived from "day" and "behold"). This specific branding was utilized on flashlights manufactured between 1917 and 1922.This model features a nickel-plated brass body with graduated rings near both endcaps, a simple rectangular brass sliding lock switch, and a heavy, bulging glass "walleye" or "fish-eye" magnifying lens. Has some scratches in the outer case which appears to be initials. Measures approximately 6 3/4" long x 1 5/8" wide. There is some corrosion from previous batteries being left in the flashlight.
