Product Details

Group of eight early 19th-century topographical engravings depicting British and European landscapes, harbors, country estates, and architectural landmarks enlivened with figures, boats, carriages, and everyday activity. Subjects include Portsmouth Harbour, Plymouth Breakwater, the Citadel and Queen Anne’s Battery at Plymouth, Dock-Yard and Harbour at Devonport, Follaton House and Endsleigh in Devonshire, Rochester, and Ehrenbreitstein, with works drawn by artists including Thomas Allom and William Turner and engraved by noted period engravers. Dating principally from approximately 1828 to 1839, the group reflects the popularity of picturesque travel and topographical publications in the early Victorian period.
