Softcover ©2021 - The Last Flight by Julie Clark is a psychological thriller and domestic suspense novel that blends elements of mystery, crime fiction, and women’s fiction. It was published in 2020 and became a New York Times bestseller, often compared to works by Lisa Jewell and Liv Constantine. The plot centers on Claire Cook and Eva James, two desperate women who meet at JFK Airport and decide to switch flight tickets to escape their dangerous lives. Claire is fleeing an abusive marriage to Rory Cook, a powerful political figure, while Eva is trying to escape a dangerous involvement in the Oakland drug trade. They swap destinations: Claire takes Eva’s flight to Oakland, and Eva takes Claire’s flight to Puerto Rico. However, the Puerto Rico flight crashes, killing everyone on board, and Claire is presumed dead. Stranded in a new city with no money or identity, Claire assumes Eva’s identity to survive, only to discover that Eva was hiding dark secrets and dangerous connections far more threatening than her own past. The novel explores themes of domestic abuse, survival, identity, and female empowerment as Claire navigates Eva’s hidden world while trying to expose the truth about her husband.
