Product Details

Antique blue spongeware / spatterware coffee pot with a tall cylindrical body, elongated curved spout, applied loop handle, and fitted lid. The surface is covered in a wonderfully irregular cobalt-blue sponge decoration over a cream body, with areas of brown clay showing through around the rim and lid—giving it the rustic, handmade character collectors love in early utilitarian pottery. The form is typical of 19th-century British country pottery, often associated with Staffordshire and other English production centers. Its tall shape and long narrow spout are characteristic of a coffee pot rather than a standard teapot. Approximate date: c. 1840–1870, mid-19th century.
