Product Details

A blue oak leaf and acorn border on a cream ground, a gadrooned scalloped edge, and a hand-tinted bouquet at the centre in rose, yellow, and green. The clobbered floral is the charm here: transfer printed in blue, then painted by hand under the glaze. SPECS: Approx 9.5 in diameter, cream earthenware with blue underglaze transfer and polychrome hand tinting, moulded gadroon rim. Backstamp: DEVON-WARE ENGLAND MADE BY RIDGWAYS REG. No. 839350. | HISTORY: Ridgways of Shelton, Staffordshire, one of the oldest names in the Potteries with roots in the 1790s, produced Devon-Ware as a mid-century earthenware line. British registered design number 839350 falls in the early 1940s, so this shape was registered in wartime and the pattern ran into the 1950s. The oak-and-acorn border reads as a nod to the ancient Devon oak woods.
