Product Details

Specs | A butter pat printed in brown with a chinoiserie garden of peonies, a fence, and two birds, hand-coloured in coral red, pink, and green over the transfer, with an ochre-painted rim. Approx. 3.5 in. diameter (confirm). Marks: impressed WEDGWOOD (flowed under the glaze), an impressed three-letter date code and star tally mark, and hand-painted pattern number A1620 in red. | History | Wedgwood introduced letter-prefixed pattern numbers in 1871 and added ENGLAND to its mark after 1891, so an A-prefixed number with no ENGLAND brackets this to c.1871-1891; the date code's year letter reads as K, which would place it in 1882 (confirm). Brown transfer with hand-applied enamel colour was Wedgwood's answer to the Aesthetic craze for Japanese and Chinese garden subjects. | Condition | Ochre rim worn through in places; light crazing and toasty staining to the back. No chips noted on photo review; tap test pending. Sold as found; please review every photo. Stay crazed, darlings.
