The Calathea peacock plant, or Calathea makoyana, is famous for its paper-thin, oval leaves that resemble the patterned feathers of a peacock tail. The tops of the leaves feature a pale green or silvery-cream background accented by dark green oval blotches along the veins, while the undersides display the exact same pattern in a striking rich purple. As a member of the prayer plant family, its leaves naturally fold upward at night and open back up during the day.
