A tall paneled octagonal coffee pot printed in deep mulberry-black with a romantic castle-and-lake scene on each face, a wide scroll cartouche band at the shoulder, a domed lid with a moulded floral finial, and a square-section Gothic handle. Lid present and correct. | SPECS: Approx 9.75 in tall to the finial, approx 9 in handle to spout. Maker: unmarked Staffordshire, c.1840s-1860s by style. Pattern: castle and lake scene with scroll cartouche band, unnamed. | HISTORY: The paneled Gothic body with a square strap handle is the classic 1840s and 1850s Staffordshire tea and coffee shape, made to match the octagonal dinner services of the same decades. Mulberry and black were printed in small runs and complete lidded pots in either colour are hard to find; the lid alone is what most of them have lost. | CONDITION: Chip to the tip of the spout, visible in the photos. Heavy all-over crazing with warm brown staining, especially on the spout, hand
