A 17.5 inch flow blue meat platter with a deep cobalt scale-and-flower border that bleeds into the white, gilt tracing on the blossoms and scrolls, moulded rococo shells at the ends and a lacy inner band around the well. Pattern: flow blue scale border with gilt flowers, unnamed. | HISTORY: The little gold patent stamp on the reverse is a US registration for the gilt decoration, added to English flow blue exported to America in the late 1890s when gold tracing over the blue was the height of dining-room fashion.
