Product Details

Purple with a pointed arch. A scalloped plate printed in deep mulberry: a rose and dahlia bouquet at the well inside a flame-and-teardrop ring, then a wide rim of quatrefoil trellis, Gothic tower cartouches and rococo scroll reserves with flower sprays between. Romantic Staffordshire at full tilt. | SPECS: Approx 9.5 in diameter, scalloped rim. Maker: unmarked base, no maker or origin claimed; est. c.1840-1860 by style. Pattern: unnamed floral centre with Gothic and quatrefoil border. | HISTORY: The 1840s were the decade Pugin made pointed arches, quatrefoils and tracery fashionable on everything from churches to dinner plates, and Staffordshire potters folded the whole vocabulary into their borders.
