Product Details

Two blushing pears nestled in a bed of leaves, all of it moulded in high relief and washed in Sarreguemines' signature honey ochre with aubergine and moss green. This is the fruit plate every French country kitchen wanted on the wall, and the pear is the one collectors fight over. | SPECS: Approx. 7 1/2 in. diameter *(confirm)*; French majolica (glazed earthenware) with scalloped leaf rim; Maker: Sarreguemines, France, 1920-1950 (the script Sarreguemines France mark was in use only in that window). | HISTORY: The Sarreguemines factory in Lorraine was one of the great French faience houses from 1790 onward; its relief fruit plates of the interwar years are the most sought-after of its majolica output, and quality of the moulding drops off in post-1950 production, which this predates. | CONDITION: Glaze wear and small flakes to the reverse *(confirm)*; front presents well with rich colour. Tap test pending. Sold as found; please review every photo. Stay crazed, darlings.
