Product Details

Wabar Craters, Rub Al-Khali region of the southern Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia This fantastic piece is comprised of black splash melt with tiny pockets of white instarock visible. The annealed literal cherry on top is what looks to be a fragment of meteorite mixed with sand. This piece has a distinct matt finish, and a tiny splash droplet on the crest near the rust colored ‘cherry’. A simply stunning significant specimen. The Wabar Craters and impacite have a fascinating history. There are at least three craters formed by iron impactors. All of the impactite is formed from the silica sand desert sands. There are a number of different ‘types’ of the impactite; from black splash melt, to grey splash melt, to “instarock” white, often like a ‘foamy’ material. Wabar impactite is intriguing. We have a significant collection available, please let us know if there’s more you would like to see in addition to those pieces listed on this site. Weight: 57.6 grams Measures: 70 x 42 x 28 mm WABR 57.6
