Bogenschutze Bronze by Hugo Lederer

‘Bogenschütze’ (‘Archer’) Created in 1916. Smaller version of Lederer’s Bogenschütz-sculpture which stood since 1916 at the Kaiserdamm-entrance of the Lietzenseepark in Berlin; this bronze of 2.20 meter high was melted down in 1943 as re-use for munition. A plaster-cast of Bogenschüzte was displayed at the ‘Frühjahrs-Ausstellung’ of the ‘Akademie der Künste zu Berlin’, May/July 1919. Museum Villa Oppenheim in Berlin owns a smaller cast of Bogenschütze by Lederer (height 54 cm) 1/2 known in existence of this size was part of the B. Altman & Co. art collection who was very wealthy art collector that had a passion for beautiful bronzes. Signed at the bottom along with foundry markings and B. Altman & Co. name on the side as well as it was part of his large collection of rare bronzes. Also have the original Kunst und Volk magazine it was featured in 1936.
