Vintage Arita Occupied Japan 11" Decorative Plate Hand Painted with a Very Detailed Floral Flower Design Made from pottery and does have weight to it and weighs over 2 pounds on its own. This beautiful plate has a raised or texture feel to the design and is hand painted with bright vibrant colors of red, green, white, blue, yellow, pink, orange, purple, gray, and black. This large plate measures 11" in diameter and stands just a tiny bit over 1 1/4" high Marked on the back Arita Made in Occupied Japan in red. There is a black smudge looking mark on one edge of the plate - this is in the glaze and does not come off (see photo) There is a tiny bit of paint loss or wear on the red stripe going around the edge of the plate but other than that plate is in very nice vintage condition - no chips, cracks, or crazing. History: Occupied Japan or OJ is a term used for the time period from 1945 (after World War II) through April 25, 1952.
