1987 Scott #2338 New Jersey Statehood Bicentennial 22-Cent Stamp Post Marked Canceled. The image shows a 22-cent US postage stamp issued in 1987 to commemorate the bicentennial of New Jersey's statehood. Helpful information: Issued on December 18, 1987, the 200th anniversary of New Jersey ratified the Constitution, making it the third state. Part of a series honoring the 200th anniversary of statehood for the first 13 US states. The stamp depicts a farmer with a basket of produce, symbolizing New Jersey's "Garden State" nickname, along with ducks and other state symbols. New Jersey delegates proposed the New Jersey Plan at the Constitutional Convention, which led to the formation of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Every city in New Jersey had a special bicentennial pictorial cancellation on the state's actual statehood anniversary of November 21.
