Product Details

Fine bone china square-cornered scalloped plate with hand-illustrated maroon/wine-toned butterfly and botanical grass motif signed "Beaton" in the design. The reverse carries the full inscription noting it was designed by Cecil Beaton on Lowestoft and dedicated to the cause of peace. Spode, England — designed by renowned photographer/designer Cecil Beaton. A documented first-year Spode collector's series plate combined with a design credit to Cecil Beaton, whose fame extends well past ceramics collecting into fashion and film history circles. Cecil Beaton photographed royalty, designed costumes that won Oscars, and in 1970 he turned his eye to butterflies for Spode's very first annual plate — dedicated to peace. This is a little piece of design history you can hang on your wall.
