This is a gallon sized bag of large perlite chunks. These are different than other perlite brands, because this perlite has rounded edges. I like it in my chunky mix, and I know you will as well. Perlite is used as a soil amendment for drainage. All plants need air to get to the roots, and perlite encourages drainage, which allows air in. I judge the size of substrate particles (perlite, orchid bark, charcoal chunks, etc) by the size of the roots I have. Large rooted plants (monstera, anthurium) like larger chunks, and plants with more delicate roots generally like smaller particles. Amount needed for each plant: I like to use a handful of chunky perlite in a 4” potted plant, maybe a little more if I’m using smaller perlite. I’m always available for questions!
