Monte Irvin's Career: Irvin played in the Negro Leagues from 1937-1948 and then in the National League with the New York N.L. and Chicago N.L. from 1949-1956. Accomplishments: He was a star slugger for the Newark Eagles, won the 1946 Negro League batting title, and led the N.L. in runs batted in during the 1951 season. 1951 World Series: Irvin batted .458 and stole home in the 1951 World Series, contributing to the "Miracle Giants" pennant drive. Hall of Fame: He is enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
