The Bombay Mint struck 1,294,372 gold sovereigns in 1918, marked with a small "I" on the reverse, making them a unique, one-year type of King George V gold sovereign. These were produced due to transportation difficulties during World War I, allowing gold from South Africa to be minted into sovereigns locally rather than being shipped to London.
