With its serrated edges and intricate design, this coin offers a glimpse into the rich history of ancient Greece during the Hellenistic period. Alexander II Zabinas, also known as Alexander II Theos Epiphanes Nikephoros, was a Hellenistic Seleucid monarch who reigned as the King of the Seleucid Kingdom between 128 BC and 123 BC. Alexander II Zabinas (Greek Ἀλέξανδρoς Zαβίνας), ruler of the Greek Seleucid kingdom, was a counter-king who emerged in the chaos following the Seleucidian loss of Mesopotamia to the Parthians. His true parentage is unknown and debated, depending on which ancient historian is referenced, but Alexander II Zabinas was a false Seleucid who claimed to be a son of Alexander I or an adopted son of Antiochus VII Sidetes, but may have been the son of an Egyptian merchant named Protarchus. Either way, he was able to rule the Seleucid Kingdom for about 6 years.
