Based on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous poem, this antique school textbook features a distinctive blue cloth binding with sharp, black-stamped text and illustrations on both the cover and spine. The interior text utilizes a unique historic vertical penmanship script and is accompanied by full-spread silhouette endpapers by artist Ruth Sutherland alongside full-page color illustrations. The book shows light, uniform page tanning and minor vintage fraying at the spine tips, but the binding remains solid, straight, and structurally intact. Adding a layer of personal history, the front endpapers feature charming childhood ownership inscriptions from a "Bobby Merrick" of Kansas City, Missouri, dated 1932.
