A wonderful 1896 first edition of John Kendrick Bangs’ A House-Boat on the Styx, published by Harper & Brothers and illustrated by Peter Newell. This antique volume features the complete set of 24 illustrations, including the frontispiece, and the original 1896 title and copyright pages. The book has a beautiful old marbled-board binding with a dark spine, giving it plenty of antique character. There is expected age-related wear, rubbing, and some staining, along with wear to the inner binding/sewing, but the binding remains intact, all pages are present, and there are no obvious torn pages. A wonderful collectible for anyone interested in antique books, early fantasy, illustrated literature, or John Kendrick Bangs.
