Softcover ©1991 - Mummies: A Voyage Through Eternity is a nonfiction monograph that explores Egyptian mummification, ancient Egyptian funerary practices, and the history of mummy discoveries. Co-written by historian Françoise Dunand and medical doctor Roger Lichtenberg, the book combines archaeological study with scientific analysis, such as radiographic and genetic research, to explain the religious and social contexts of mummification. It examines why the ancient Egyptians preserved bodies to guarantee immortality, detailing the mummification process, funeral rituals, and the contents of tombs. The work is part of the Découvertes Gallimard series (published as Abrams Discoveries in the US and New Horizons in the UK) and is characterized by its use of abundant illustrations, including photographs, X-rays, and drawings, to support its accessible text.
