Antique Victorian copy of The Tower of London by W. Harrison Ainsworth, published by George Routledge & Sons. This later 19th-century edition features a rich burgundy embossed cloth binding with gilt cover and spine decoration. Interior bears a handwritten presentation inscription dated July 28, 1900, providing a firm period provenance for the book. Ainsworth’s historical romance The Tower of London was originally published in 1840 and centers on Lady Jane Grey, Queen Mary, and the intrigue surrounding the Tower of London. Condition is heavily timeworn, with substantial loss and separation to the spine covering, fraying at the head and foot, edge wear, rubbing, staining, and general age-related wear.
