Offered here is an exceptional timepiece Rolex Oyster Perpetual “Bubbleback” automatic chronometer wristwatch, reference 3696 dating to 1944. This model belongs to the historic Bubble Back series, representing some of the earliest automatic waterproof wristwatches produced by Rolex during the 1930s and 1940s. The line has the first successful automatic rotor wristwatch combined with the patented Oyster waterproof case. These watches laid the foundation for every modern Rolex automatic that followed. Powering the watch is Rolex’s original in-house “Bubbleback” Perpetual automatic movement, equipped with the patented rotor system and engraved: “Rolex Perpetual - Chronometer – Swiss Made – Patented – Super Balance.” This early chronometer-grade caliber represents a significant milestone in Rolex’s self-winding technology. The champagne dial features Arabic numerals, a minute/second track, blued steel hands and a red sweep-second hand. The dial is signed “Rolex Oyster Perpetual” and “Chronometer.” Housed in a 33mm 9K rose gold Rolex Oyster waterproof case and signed screw-down crown. It is coming on a rose-gold-tone aftermarket bracelet. The Rolex Bubble Back was the world’s first widely successful automatic waterproof wristwatch and remains one of the most important milestones in horological history.
