Beautiful vintage Japanese Dragonware porcelain teacup and saucer, featuring hand-painted dragon decoration with raised moriage detailing and gold accents. These distinctive Japanese tea sets were especially popular during the mid-20th century. The teacup has a wonderful hidden feature: a lithophane portrait of a woman/geisha in the bottom of the cup. The porcelain is thin and translucent, and when the empty cup is held up to a strong light, the woman’s face appears through the porcelain. Measurements: Saucer measures approximately 5.5” diameter. Teacup measures approximately 3.75” diameter × 4.75” across including handle × 2.25” high. Condition: No chips or cracks. Minor loss/wear to the gold trim around the rims of both pieces, consistent with age and handling. Please see photos for details. A beautiful and unusual piece of vintage Japanese porcelain—especially fun for collectors because of the hidden lithophane portrait.
