From 1875-1900 I have a few in full condition, and some where the glass is chipped or missing. It is rare to find ones that also include the magnifying lens. Founded in 1853 in Rochester, NY, Bausch & Lomb was a major supplier of scientific instruments. This specific "Model T" was a staple in many early science laboratories. Designed for biological examination, its unique mahogany or cherry wood base features curved sides that serve as hand rests for stability during delicate dissections. This unique instrument featured a wood and metal construction, a reflective mirror for enhanced lighting, and an adjustable magnification lens holder to view biological samples. Materials: base boxwood - cherry or mahogany wood stage - glass lens support pillar- brass (nickelled) Measurements : overall: height 125 mm pillar: length 71 mm length 248 mm width 86 mm stage: length 85 mm lens support ring: diameter 2

I studied art history & art conservation. I grew up tagging along with my uncle, an antique dealer, as he hunted for antiques “that can’t talk on the telephone” (pre-1900) in SF Bay Area. I’ve worked in the waste reduction/reuse/recycling industry for 17 years.
