The seller had a great selection of cards and a wide variety of inventory, which is what drew me into the show in the first place. Unfortunately, the overall experience was overshadowed by the constant complaints about how much money he was losing.
Throughout the show, there were repeated comments about not making enough money and taking losses on cards. The moment that really turned me off was after an Andy Dalton card sold, when he said, “I just lost so much fucking money.” As a buyer, hearing that made the experience uncomfortable. It felt like customers were being made to feel guilty for buying cards at the prices the seller chose to start them at. He got so upset and started pouting that he ended the stream like a child who lost a video game.
I understand that selling on Whatnot is a business, and not every card is going to sell for what you hope. But if you’re unhappy with the price, it’s better to set a higher starting bid or reserve than to repeatedly complain after the sale.
