I am a 10-year Army veteran, now passionately engaged in the world of rare plants. I was critically wounded in Iraq on Valentine’s Day 2006, when a roadside bomb severed my right leg above the knee, causing my heart to stop for 18 minutes. Like many, I have found healing through the nurturing of plants. I got my first plant many years ago while in the depths of depression and self-pity. But that plant marked the start of my recovery, revealing the purpose behind my second chance.
