Original Audubon octavo lithograph featuring four North American mammals: Southern Pouched Rat, Dekay’s Shrew, Long-Nosed Shrew, and Silvery Shrew Mole. Published as part of The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America, this finely detailed natural history illustration was drawn from nature by J.W. Audubon and printed and hand-colored by J.T. Bowen of Philadelphia. These most likely date circa 1849-1854. Its multiple-species composition makes it an especially interesting example from the celebrated Quadrupeds series. Overall framed size: 15.25” x 12” Condition: Age-appropriate toning with scattered foxing, toning, dust and minor staining visible in the margins. Later black wood frame exhibits cosmetic wear, scuffs, and finish loss.
