This is an authentic vintage Du Pont Improved Military Rifle Powder metal tin, specifically designated as Number 4227. The 16-ounce (1-pound) capacity container features the classic red, white, and blue tri-color paper label wrap characteristic of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company manufacturing. The front of the canister explicitly states "DU PONT IMPROVED MILITARY RIFLE POWDER" above the iconic oval Du Pont logo. The lower section features a shield graphic denoting "NUMBER 4227" and "16 OUNCES NET." The back of the tin describes the contents as a "dense progressive burning nitrocellulose powder for use in modern sporting and military rifles" and lists the manufacturing origin as Wilmington, Delaware.
