Lot of 14 original vintage color photographs of Geumsansa Temple, identified on the period English sign as "Kum San Sa Temple," near Gimje, South Korea. Believed to date from the late 1970s to early 1980s. Images include the famous three-story Mireukjeon or Maitreya Hall, its towering interior Buddha figures, ornate Buddhist altars, statues, colorful dancheong-painted ceilings and carved architectural details. Other views show temple buildings, monks and visitors, the wooded Moaksan grounds, a period guide map, and a uniformed women's choir or religious group posing with a guitar. A Korean sign behind the group appears to refer to a thousand-day prayer observance. Each rounded-corner photograph measures approximately 4.875 x 3.5 inches. Acquired from the Douglasville, Georgia estate of retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Patricia Jane Harrington. Exact photographer and date are unknown. Condition includes noticeable reddish/magenta color shift, fading, occasional scratches, surface wear and other signs of age. Please examine all images carefully. Sold together as one lot.
