Thankyou! another great order thanks Welcome to Cresgems, where the itinerary is more of a suggestion than a plan. We begin sensibly enough: coins. Lovely coins. Silver, history, dates, mint marks — all very civilised. Then a token sneaks in. Fair enough. Ten minutes later Cres is holding a mysterious vintage figurine and suddenly 30 grown adults are emotionally invested in a ceramic man none of us knew existed. Then there’s a mask. Why is there a mask? Where did it come from? Nobody knows. Nobody asks. We’ve learned to trust the process. Before you know it we’re back to a Victorian florin as though the previous 15 minutes were completely normal. That’s the magic of Cres — part coin show, part antiques hunt, part “what on earth has he found now?” You don’t just watch for what you collect; you watch because you genuinely haven’t got a clue what’s appearing next. Coins? Absolutely. Tokens? Probably. Unidentified ornamental gentleman? Entirely possible. Cresgems: expect the unexpected and never question the figurine. Highly recommended seller. Last week I bought Robbo the Korean bronze duck with a brolly. This week I somehow acquired a brass frog with an umbrella to keep him company, because clearly what my collection was missing was a weatherproof amphibian.
As if that wasn’t enough, I also appear to have bought a dog sitting on a stone pen holder. I have absolutely no recollection of ever deciding that decorative desk animals were a collecting category, yet here we are.
The medals and tokens are now starting to look positively sensible compared with the rest of the parcel contents.
Another cracking Banker show, great banter as usual and the usual dangerous assortment of things that I didn’t know I needed.
At this rate Cres isn’t expanding my collection anymore — he’s slowly building me a small zoo, one questionable purchase at a time.
