This is an antique or vintage Chinese red lacquer box, usually a wedding or dowry box, featuring raised gilt decoration. Typically made of papier-mâché or wood with a lacquer finish. Features elaborate raised gilt (gold) scenes of a Chinese village or landscape with figures and clouds. Originally used to carry food or gifts for a wedding, or to store dowry items. Circa early to mid-20th century. No significant callouts, brass hardware has some tarnished surfaces, stained inside as seen in pics. Small scratch as seen. Wood and paint otherwise intact, no peeling, cracks, or chips noted. 13.5”x 7.5” by 5.5” tall.
