Product Details

This is an ornate bamboo shaman container created by the Dayak peoples of Borneo, most closely associated today with regions of Indonesia. Traditionally used to store sacred herbs, powders, and protective charms, these cylindrical boxes were ritual tools rather than simple vessels. The soot-blackened carvings, often depicting ancestral guardians or the naga dragon, functioned as symbolic sentinels, while the dense, calendrical patterns etched into the bamboo recorded cycles of time, ritual, and memory. Sealed with carved wooden stoppers and shaped through slow, deliberate craftsmanship, this object operates as a portable cosmology: part medicine chest, part spiritual archive, and part protective architecture in miniature. 10.5" x 2.5" x 2.5"
