Product Details
A complete cut crystal preserve set in the Anglo-Irish style — jar + lid + original matching glass spoon, all three pieces intact and surviving together as a set. The body is cut with two bands: cross-hatch diamonds above, vertical flute/prism panels below, separated by a smooth blank band. The lid is a flat disc with a small ball-knop finial. The matching glass spoon is plain clear glass with a round shallow bowl and a small ball at the end of the stem. The base carries a cut rayed star and a subtle pink cast to the glass, with a faint partial mark. SPECS - Approximate dimensions: ~4" tall with lid x ~3" diameter (confirm) - Form: Cylindrical lidded preserve jar with disc lid + matching glass spoon (3-piece complete set) - Lid: Flat disc with small ball-knop finial - Spoon: Plain clear glass, round shallow bowl, straight stem with ball finial - Glass: Clear lead crystal with a subtle pink cast at the base - Maker: Unmarked / unconfirmed — offered as cut crystal in the Anglo-Irish style HISTORY The Anglo-Irish cut crystal vocabulary — diamond fields paired with vertical flute or prism panels — was developed by the Irish and English glasshouses (Waterford, Cork, Stourbridge) and has been a benchmark for cut crystal tableware ever since. Preserve sets like this one — a small lidded jar with a matching glass spoon — were a genteel staple of the breakfast and tea table. Complete sets with the original matching spoon are uncommon; most surviving examples have lost either the lid or the spoon (or both) over the years, so finding all three together is a small collector's win. The cut detail catches and refracts light beautifully, making this a lovely display piece on a French country tablescape, a cottage breakfast table, or a grandmillennial sideboard. CONDITION Pre-owned excellent. All three pieces (jar, lid, spoon) intact and matching as a set. No visible chips, cracks, or fleabites from photographs. Cut detail crisp on both diamond and flute panels. Confirm on hand inspection: rim chips on jar opening or lid edge, micro-fleabites on the spoon bowl tip, any hairlines under raking light. PRICE Auction start $18 — Buy It Now $52 (Comp: vintage/antique cut crystal preserve jars in Anglo-Irish style $35-85 unmarked; complete sets with the original glass spoon command a survival-rarity premium.
