Size: 33.8 mm (sizes vary) Ammolite is an organic gemstone formed from the fossilized shells of ancient ammonites. It develops when these shells are buried in sediment and preserved under pressure, allowing the original aragonite layers to remain intact rather than transforming into calcite. Its iridescent “fire” coloration is caused by light interference within the layered aragonite structure, producing shifting hues across the surface. Polished pieces typically show a smooth surface with vibrant color play and natural patterning from the original shell structure. Each item is unique in shape, color, and pattern.
