Original antique hand-colored lithograph from John James Audubon’s landmark publication The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America. Rendered with Audubon’s remarkable attention to anatomy and habitat, this natural history illustration was drawn from nature by J.W. Audubon and printed and hand-colored by J.T. Bowen in Philadelphia. These most like date to circa 1849-1854. A wonderful piece for collectors of Audubon prints, natural history, or early scientific illustration. Overall framed size: 15.25” x 12” Condition: Expected age-related toning with scattered foxing and light discoloration throughout the paper. Later black wood frame shows cosmetic wear, dents, and finish loss consistent with age and handling. Ready to hang.
