Product Details

In Central Texas, the most common type of pyrite found is nodular pyrite. These form as dense, rounded concretions or irregular masses within Cretaceous marine shales and limestone formations. These nodules formed millions of years ago in the low-oxygen, sulfur-rich environments of the Western Interior Seaway. Because of their shape, they are frequently referred to as pyrite spheres, or pyrite nodules. Habit: Usually found as lumpy, globular, or bumpy nodules rather than perfect, shiny golden cubes. Crystal Structure: Upon closer inspection or when fractured, you can often see radiating or tightly compacted internal crystals. Color: While a fresh break reveals a bright, metallic brass-yellow luster (true "fool's gold"), these nodules readily oxidize and are often found with a rusty brown, reddish, or chalky white coating on the outside. I sourced these Pyrite Nodules myself from creek beds in Central Texas. You will receive exactly what you see in the pictures.
