A jewel-box Art Deco cake plate in Royal Albert Crown China, a deep cobalt and gilt border framing hand-colored Imari floral reserves, with twin lug handles and a scalloped gilt rim. SPECS: Approx 9 in square, handle to handle Cobalt ground with raised gilt scrollwork, Imari-palette florals, and diamond fruit cartouches. ROYAL ALBERT CROWN CHINA ENGLAND backstamp to the reverse. HISTORY: Royal Albert, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The Crown China mark dates this to the 1920s, the firm's Art Deco heyday. The decoration is their classic Imari or Derby style, a numbered colorway in the cobalt, rust and gold Japanese-Imari tradition the English potteries adored, and a handled cake plate is the centerpiece form of a tea service.
