This historic, original glass lantern slide captures an extraordinary documentary photograph titled "Picking" Crabs for Market, on Banks of Chesapeake Bay. Produced by the renowned Keystone View Company out of their Meadville, PA studios, this slide dates to the early 20th century (circa 1900-1915). The striking black-and-white image provides a rare glimpse into the early mid-Atlantic seafood industry, showcasing a group of African American workers, including several women in period dress and an older gentleman with a pipe, sorting and processing an immense pile of fresh blue crabs at a wooden culling table. The glass slide is beautifully preserved in its original black fabric-taped cardboard frame. The side margin retains the crisp, stamped Keystone View Company branding, while the right margin features the hand-typed title and the catalog serial number 162-6893. A vintage red-rimmed price or inventory sticker numbered "1380 / 2" is affixed to the top left corner. The slide measures approximately 4 by 3.25 inches and remains in excellent vintage condition with sharp photographic contrast and no cracks to the underlying glass.
