This beautiful heavy-duty antique hand plane features a wooden, dense body stock, top handle with a slot for a blade. Also carved into the side and end of the plane is the letters "CD" which could be the previous owners initials. These primitive tools commonly date from or before the 1900s before metal planes became standard. On top of the plane is a handle or "tote" to provide a sturdy grip for pushing the tool across a board. Next is a "strike button" located on the top nose of the plane and is used by striking it gently with a mallet to loosen the wedge and blade and for adjustments. ***Please note that in the center of the plane is the "mouth and throat" where the metal iron blade and wedge would rest.
