This is a Sahli-type haemoglobinometer which is used for measuring the haemoglobin content of blood. The square glass measuring tube at the top of the lid includes a measuring scale based on the ‘Sahli’ haemoglobin estimation system. This is the key analytical component contained in the kit. The other components shown are extractive, storage and cleaning-related. The Sahli system for haemoglobin estimation was devised by Dr Hermann Sahli (1856-1933), an academic from the University of Bern in Switzerland. The model on display was made by Hellige America Incorporated, an American subsidiary of the German medical instrument house of ‘Hellige’, based in the state of Baden-Wurttemburg.
